Congratulations to Chris Gray!
Chris is currently a senior (2008 graduate)
from Notre Dame High School in Sherman Oaks, Ca who recently
committed to the University of San Diego. His story is truly
amazing and inspirational to all.
Although Chris stands 6’4 210 lbs. and possesses a solid bat
with power potential, he was relegated to playing junior varsity
baseball his junior year. After 3 frustrating years of playing
for his High School baseball team, Chris was eager to explore
the idea of attending different showcases. Having never played a
game at the varsity level, he realized that schools and coaches
had no idea who he was or how he was capable of performing.
After doing a little research, Chris and his parents had
contacted Showball regarding our Dodger Stadium Division I
Showcase Camp December 27-29, 2007. With 10 elite Division I
programs in attendance and very little time before the regular
season began, he knew that this was one of his last
opportunities to be noticed. With 3 days of working out and
playing games at the showcase camp, Chris was able to utilize
his intensity and determination to perform at the highest
levels. Needless to say, coaches in attendance were scratching
their heads wondering who he was. One such program was the
University of San Diego.
For 1-2 months after the event, Chris received several emails
and telephone calls from interested programs. After visiting the
University of San Diego and meeting with the rest of the
coaching staff, Chris’ decision was easy. Although he has yet to
play a game at the varsity level, Chris committed to one of the
top 10 programs in the nation and will be joining the Toreros
next season.
